Tuere

Tuere joined the BRHP Housing Mobility program in 2012. During her time in the program, Tuere was grateful for the financial support and housing assistance that the program provided, which helped her to achieve her housing goals.

Tuere was especially appreciative of the financial assistance she received after she lost her job. “They [BRHP] gave me a zero-rent balance, kept it at zero, and helped me with my utilities,” allowing her to focus on other responsibilities while she began her new job and received her first few paychecks.

BRHP helps and encourages program participants to develop responsible financial habits, pay off outstanding debts, and build their credit to ensure financial stability, improved health, and increased opportunity access beyond just the scope of the program. Tuere utilized these services while in the program, so that she “didn’t have to stress about housing” and was instead able to focus on attending school where she “graduated with [her] bachelor’s degree in cyber security” and started a new job. These financial counseling and goal-oriented programs are just two ways BRHP helps participants set themselves and their families up for success during and after their time in the Housing Mobility Program.

When asked which part of the Housing Mobility Program she valued the most, Tuere mentioned BRHP’s post-move counseling, a two-year assistance program created to support participants’ new tenancy and housing transition. As part of this counseling process, BRHP conducts routine check-ins by phone and in-person, as well as helps mediate any conflicts between tenants and landlords. When an issue arose with her landlord, she was thankful for how “it was handled straight away, ” and she “appreciated the level of access [she] had with a real person.”

Once she was able to reach her housing goals, Tuere decided to voluntarily withdraw from the program in April 2024. She wanted prospective participants to know that “accepting help is never a bad thing. If you need help, accept it.” She wholeheartedly believes that “assistance can only help you become greater.”
